Solicitations to many Family Foundations / Corporations (usually in the form of written proposals) are submitted through the University of Utah Principal and Major Gifts program. We encourage philanthropic support by matching donor interest with University needs and priorities.
Welcome to the pre-proposal and proposal submission page. You will be able to track/save/access all pre-proposals and proposal you submit using the online tool Submittable. You will also be able to see all the open calls for pre-proposals available to you, received instant notifications, and have the ability to review any comments and edits to your submissions.
Thank you for participating in the One U Prospect Strategy Meeting for the Semnani Foundation and Khos and Ghazela Semnani. You've survived step one! Next up, we'll need a brief submission that will appear on a one-page document for Pres. Randall to reference going into interactions with Mr. Semnani over the Rose Bowl weekend. It is also possible that this sheet could be shared with the Semnani' Foundation's Executive Director, Amir Soltni, so consider both audiences accordingly. Please submit by 5pm Monday, December 20th.
The Kahlert Foundation uses a two-stage application process. In this first stage, your organization must use this form to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) to provide a brief overview of your organization and the project to be considered. The LOI enables us to determine if your request for funding fits our Mission Statement prior to you taking the time to submit a full application.
Only successful LOIs will move on to the full application process where you will be required to submit a detailed application and participate in a Site visit or meeting.
The board typically meets three times a year. Grant requests (LOI and full application) are to be submitted at the beginning of the previous month if they are to be considered at that board meeting. The earlier a grant request is received the greater the likelihood the grant will be reviewed and presented at the next board meeting.
Deadlines:
By January 1 for February Board Meeting
By May 1 for June Board Meeting
By September 1 for October Board Meeting
The Kahlert Foundation’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

Call for pre-proposals │ R. Harold Burton Foundation
Typically $5,000-$25,000, no more than $50,000
We are currently seeking pre-proposals for the R. Harold Burton Foundation’s Fall round of funding. If you would like to submit a pre-proposal, please contact your area development professional to ensure consistency in the application process:
- Complete the online form found below.
- You will receive a confirmation email once your pre-proposal has been received. It is your responsibility to ensure that your form has been submitted properly.
Ask yourself: Have you submitted requests for funding to the R. Harold Burton Foundation already in this calendar year? (Only ONE request per calendar year for this Foundation). Are you seeking funding for general overhead expenses, endowments, or scholarship initiatives? (These are not usually funded.) Are you looking to fund seminars, symposiums, or one-time events? (These are not usually funded). Does your funding needs serve to support education, science, literacy, and health purposes, which impact the lives of residents in the Salt Lake Metropolitan area? (This Foundation funds these areas).
The Foundation tends to support projects and programs that benefit residents in the Salt Lake Metropolitan area. To research past funding by the R. Harold Burton Foundation to the University of Utah, please access their giving history. Current funding initiatives and funding limitations are listed below.
R. Harold Burton Foundation Mission & Criteria
During his lifetime, R. Harold Burton gave generously of his time and money to benefit his community, giving back to the people and places he loved. The R. Harold Burton Foundation strives to continue his legacy of service by supporting education, science, literary, and health projects in the greater Salt Lake Metropolitan area.
The Foundation is interested in a detailed, complete application for a specific project, and not undifferentiated overhead expenses or endowments.
- The Foundation asks that the proposals have a specific request amount (not a range).
- Proposals for this Foundation should be compelling, and the impact must be great.
- Recently, the Foundation has not funded recent requests for equipment.
- It is important that proposals also include specific information about how the funds will be used and how many people the project will serve. They want to know the direct impact of a project and the number of people it will impact (not a percentage).
- Only submit for projects within the Salt Lake Metropolitan area. When providing data and facts, stay clear of national and state-wide statistics (localize it to the SL Metropolitan Area).
- The foundation prefers to support direct program services over research.
- If asked to move forward with a full proposal, this Foundation asks all areas to meet with their Executive Director in-person (or virtually) at the Foundation offices.
Please do not hesitate to ask Mary Rosenbury or Danielle Keddington any questions.
